What a celebration! This lo a fi recording of the opium warlords brings an angry collision between some very different musical directions through one bleak channel. Sami Albert Hynninen carries on with his slow chewing Satanic dirge that followed down the styx river through the wonderful 2009 album “Live at Colonia Dignidad” .
So we have slow, heavy and tormented guitar strokes that are echoing through the nothingness on ‘Sxi Meru’, crazed black metal that erupts from and dissolve back into a minimalist, almost nonexistent field of melancholic music on “Slippy” and a heavy drone opening, serving as background for some menacing chants for “Lament for the builders of Khara Khoto”. On each track we are facing a different face of the raw, warlike Opium Warlords, and I think the first thing we should appreciate is how rich his approach is to his mission of meditation. Whatever we choose to appreciate, and whatever this pussy in the sky is, The Opium warlords comes forth with yet another great release that you should seek out in order to get to know Hynninen’s secret
