Venowl – Gnawed Gristle and Bone

A – Gnawed Gristle and Bone
This small, nevertheless destructive cassette which was released by Ominous Silence is certainly a small, bloody treasure, if you happen to treasure hatred and utter madness, that is. Inside it, like an undead Schrödinger cat, trapped in a heavy Pandora box, Venowl is drawing its poison. ‘Gnawed Gristle and Bone’ is a 23 minutes long soundtrack for the determined minds who charge at warp nine into the wall. It’s a painful, hateful road rage that storms and burns itself like a burning meteorite. Venowl starts with a slow, crushing doom epiphany. Vile drums are leading the way for crushing guitars and completely insane vocals, and when you think you got the idea of what this E.P is all about, you just sink deeper into the gaping hole of the abyss and the view, well, it changes.
Deeper into the track, all walls of music collapse and we are left with a hostile ocean of harsh noise. We then escort this wild shriek of terror until it dies in a filthy, crusty swamp of decayed sounds, and as we learn to love this beast, Venowl turns once again and changes shape into a swarm of flies in the manifestation of an abstract, almost static wall of fading distortion. This death and resurrection show is highly recommended for fans of violent, yet painful music. ‘Gnawed Gristle and Bone’ is a fitting release for the label ‘Ominous Silence’. Fitting, that is, with the Ominous; never with the silence.
